It's still fondly remembered for the pure chaos one could cause in it with a grenade launcher, and less fondly for the stupid gameplay-breaking plot twist near the end. Silent Storm is a Jagged Alliance-like combat tactics game, but with a huge twist: fully destructible multi-level environments, more advanced than the original DOS X-Com games. Unfortunately, English translation was done very poorly, and it never sold much outside of ex-USSR, but it, along with its sequel, Space Rangers 2, still has an active local community that even maintains online servers. Space Rangers is another popular Russian open-world game, but this one is set in space and has turn-based ship-to-ship battles and interesting text quests on planets. Personally, I missed it when it came out, and couldn't get into it later - it's too unforgiving, but it has a cult following here. Vangers is a unique early voxel-based open-world trading/questing vehicle game that's a legend among Russian gamers and developers. What games, locally made or not, are well known amongst your countrymen, but mostly unknown everywhere else? These two games were my middle school and high school staples, but they still remain pretty unknown in the larger gaming community. English and Brazilian servers were also popular, but French players made up most of the population. Had a healthy playerbase from 2010 to 2015. There's also a few competitive modes such as racing, and bootcamp, where there's no building, only speed and difficulty. Transformice, a multiplayer platformer made by a former Dofus dev, where a "shaman" builds paths to allow players to complete the objective. If you were in middle school in France during these years, you had at least one classmate playing and talking about this game. Was really popular around 2008 to 2012 until Wakfu and some updates started fracturing the player base.
